Gundry: Peter the Apostate

The news about Robert Gundry is moving quickly. Amazing that this news comes right before the 66th Annual Evangelical Theological Society Meeting (ETS). It makes you wonder what conversations may take place during the conference. I thought it would be helpful to post Dr. David Farnell’s response to the situation. It is quite lengthy but it gives a sound perspective on how to think through the issue in light of a strong view of inerrancy. I shall leave you also with a quote from the Chicago Statement as you ponder this topic.

ROBERT GUNDRY, GAINING RENEWED SUPPORT FROM ETS, DECLARES PETER AN APOSTATE IN MATTHEW’S GOSPEL by F. David Farnell, Ph.D.

Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy Article XVIII. “WE AFFIRM that the text of Scripture is to be interpreted by grammatico-historical exegesis, taking account of its literary forms and devices, and that Scripture is to interpret Scripture. WE DENY the legitimacy of any treatment of the text or quest for sources lying behind it that leads to relativizing, dehistoricizing, or discounting its teaching, or rejecting its claims to authorship.”

  1. Yea, like I haven’t heard the devil before: Gundry says Peter was an apostate! May as well call the Lord Jesus a liar as well.

Will this idea have traction? Only to they with itching ears, to the rest of us, the word is:

    Get thee behind me Satan……….
